Qatar Gratuity Law — How It Works

Under Qatar Labour Law No. 14 of 2004 (Article 54), all private sector employees in Qatar are entitled to end of service gratuity when their employment ends. The formula is straightforward:

ConditionEntitlement
Less than 1 year of serviceNo entitlement
1 year or more (resigned or terminated)3 weeks (21 days) basic wage per year
Maximum capNone (unlike UAE's 2-year cap)

Qatar's formula is simpler than UAE or Saudi: the same rate (21 days) applies regardless of whether you resigned or were terminated, and regardless of how many years you worked. There is no graduation like UAE (21 days for ≤5 years, 30 days for >5 years).

Basic wage only: Housing, transport, food, and other allowances are excluded. Use only the "basic wage" (الأجر الأساسي) from your employment contract.

For long-serving employees (10+ years), UAE gratuity is typically higher than Qatar's due to the 30-days-per-year rate after 5 years. For employees under 5 years, the calculation is identical.
